Environmental Award won by one of our Members!

Todmorden Business Association members Clare Townley and Glen Mattock are ‘over the moon’, or should we say sun? after winning the ‘Yorkshire and Humber Microgeneration Awards for ‘Best Home Installation’ for the 23 huge solar panels they have installed on their home.

The award was introduced by television weather man Paul Hudson.
Presenting their award at the Microgeneration Conference in Harrogate, Kirk Archibald, Solar Development Manager at the Energy Savings Trust proclaimed:

‘’With their 5 Kilowatt peak installation, they have managed to generate 60% of their own electricity. They have also reduced their electricity usage by over 30% this is despite having 2 growing children who use computers and watch television. They have ensured that their appliances are low energy and religiously monitor their own usage. When they found the roof space on their house hadn’t enough space to accommodate their solar panels they built a mock roof on the banking by the side of their house.”

Clare is delighted that three years of investment, hard work and behaviour changes by all the family have been recognised.

“Climate Change is a reality; lots of people talk the talk, but we really have walked the walk and put our money where our mouth is. Although our ‘walk’ has been a long and hard one, everyone’s little steps do make a difference, every bulb you replace, light you turn off, heater you turn down and mile you walk really does help to ensure your children and grandchildren have a future”

For further information on the installation, ‘whole building approach’ and photos phone Clare or Glen on 01706 814931
or e-mail Clare@Harmsworth-Townley.co.uk

Expect the Unexpected (November 2006 Meeting)

On Wednesday 8th November Peter Bentley from Calderdale Council spoke to our meeting about Business Contingency Planning. He offers help and advice to all busineses in the Calderdale area who need help with Contingency Planning.

He explained the importance of having a plan 'B' incase of fire, flood and other unforseen events. Simple measures like backing up computers and removing the backup from the office, having a list of all staff and client phone numbers off site incase you are unable to enter your premesis and having more than one cheque signatory are all simple examples of measures businesses can take to prevent them being vulnerable. He pointed out that a contingency plan may only exisit in your head, but often this is sufficient for small businesses - at least you've thought about it!

Peter is happy to help any businesses in the area with their Contingency Planning and can be contacted on 01422 393107. He is also sending out a proforma example of a Business Contingency plan which will be circulated to all members with the next minutes.
